With the glorious return to style of longer beards such as the Viking or biker styles, we are seeing a number of trends become fashionable when it comes to accessorizing your mega beard. Recently we discussed the rise in popularity of beard ornaments as such as trend. That case being a relatively new phenomenon. One which is not so new and has been making a return to our faces is the beard bead.

Beard beads or beard rings as they are also known, have a long history and association with the Viking era. Given the current popularity of shows such as Vikings and even Sons of Anarchy in recent years, it is no surprise then that the beard bead has made a return.

Growing and styling tips

First and foremost, you will need to be capable of growing a long beard. Check out our step by step guide on growing your Viking beard! This is no easy feat and takes time, care and cultivation. With the correct beard care products and TLC though, many men would be surprised and how long they can grow their soon to be Viking adorned beard.

Although there are various styles of beard beads available, the most common and popular are bronze or silver plated and often inscribed with some image or text. This is another nod to the Viking origins of beard rings themselves.

Braiding your long beard

Next you will have to carefully braid your beard. The choice of where to place the rings is up to you. Commonly, either one ring is placed on the braided center part of a long beard or on two braided sections of the beard on either side of the chin, parallel to one another. Braiding should be done carefully, in the same manner, albeit with more fragile hair, as you would braid any regular section of hair.

After intricately braiding the hair, ensuring a neat and even weave of both sides, you can place your beard beads. These are usually placed a couple of inches from the end of your braid. To hold them firmly in place, both before and after, you may choose to place an elastic band onto the hair first.

Size Matters

The key is to make sure that the beard beads are the correct size to fit the thickness of your beard. Volumes of hair will differ from person to person and so, there are a variety of sizes to choose from.

With everything in place, you will now look every inch the battle hardened warrior. A man who defines dominance and masculinity. Projecting a strong image of desire, natural ferocity and willing to take seize what he wants by any means. This is one instance. Oppositely, the addition of beard beads can show you as a caring person, reflective and thoughtful about nature with a very easy going outlook.

Be the Viking you always wanted

How you are perceived all depends on how you carry yourself, but one thing is certain. Beard beads provide an awesome way to spice up your long beard style and explore your Viking roots.
